Yes, during the prolonged starvation and famines caused by the cooling trend during the Little Ice Age learned magistrates burned witches at the stake. In Northern Europe during the 1500s, thousands of innocent women were legally executed. Nowadays, the blame game for “threatening” weather is more democratic, with all women, men and children right down to the newly born being culprits in calamity.

Convection is the major force transferring heat upward.
GREENHOUSES WITHOUT ROOFS DON'T HOLD HEAT -- this bad analogy has caused massive stupidity. The "I love science" crowd seems unable to acknowledge middle school science about convection, preferring instead massive obfuscation combined with bullying the opposition into over-complicated attempts to refute - because simple and obvious refutation is ridiculed by the MSM for not being 100% technically accurate (and is then "refuted " with obfuscation.

Heat is absorbed by air and water, air rises - radiating heat all the way. heat radiated downward is "blocked" by denser air and water vapor below - HEAT RADIATED UPWARD IS BLOCKED BY NOT VERY MUCH AT ALL - though the atmosphere might be said to be 40 miles deep, with co2 mixed in, THE AIR IS VERY THIN ABOVE 5 MILES, AND THERE'S DAMN LITTLE WATER VAPOR.
also, a simple observation that anyone can replicate with minimal equipment: areas lacking moisture in the air above rapidly cool off at night. think of deserts , mountaintops, cold regions where most moisture has precipitated out. Also think of how cold it is at airliner altitude above the clouds, even on a sunny day. THIS OBSERVATION SHOWS HOW MUCH WARMING IS DUE TO WATER VAPOR, AND THE PUNY EFFECT OF CO2 AND OTHER GREENHOUSE GASES. \
Think about how the warmists befuddle the discussion with talk of "heating in the upper atmosphere" - what, at airliner height?
