Closing the Borders

How much of the illegal drugs used in our country come from outside our borders? It is estimated that 90% of the cocaine in this country enters through Mexico.Drug trafficking is thought to account from 63% of the total economy of Mexico. Over 30% of the people in United States prisons are there for drug related offenses. Most drug distribution is done via gangs. All of this is a direct and dire result of "open borders". We are losing our young people to an epidemic. If we attacked this epidemic like we do other health dangers like Zika, there would be no question. Borders would be closed, the movement monitored, every media outlet would be issuing cautions, and extraordinary treatment measures would be put in place. Closing the borders would reduce the flow of drugs into the country, cut down on gang activity, lower prison populations, make our cities safer, and save our young people.So the question is, what is the problem? These statistics alone justify a fence, wall, whatever.
