In 2023 the world burned more fossil fuel than at any other time in history. ⁽¹⁾

Here are some facts:

Global energy related CO2 emissions increased by 1.7%, driven by China and India.
Fossil fuel consumption in 2023 reached a record high, rising by 1.5%.
China is by far the world’s largest consumer of primary energy, burning 34% of world consumption.
Almost no country is meeting their UN anti-fossil targets. ⁽¹⁾
