The chances of a pretend President of the United States seemed like an impossibility prior to the election of the guy in the White House today. With that happening, it’s not quite so farfetched anymore. The question is then, what are some alternatives that might explain what’s going on? First, consider the 1993 movie, Dave, that provided a counterfeit option. Kevin Kline played “an uncanny Presidential lookalike named Dave, who’s recruited by the Secret Service to become a momentary stand-in for the President of the United States. However, things don’t turn out exactly as planned and Dave finds himself continuing his masquerade as America’s Chief Executive indefinitely” (From the Dave promotional material on the VHS tape cover, 1993).
