Elon Musk just revealed the real reason for his “What did you do this week?” email—and it’s nothing short of brilliant.

Musk instructed federal workers to outline five things they accomplished last week. While it was a move to weed out lazy employees, the real goal was to identify workers who don’t exist.

Musk explained: “In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks. In other words, there is outright fraud.”

The email came with a stern warning: failure to respond would be considered a resignation.
