The wisdom of Pope Benedict XVI can never be discounted. Anglicanorum coetibus ranked with Summorum Pontificum as two of his greatest works for the liturgy and the faith. Unfortunately, Summorum was a motu proprio and, as we see, easier to attack than an apostolic constitution.
Unfortunately, notwithstanding the "pastoral provision" of John Paul II for disaffected Anglicans, it should have been what Pope Benedict XVI did. His work was thirty years too late.
