Freed Belarus Opposition Leader Addresses UN Days After 5-Year Prison Ordeal
Tikhanovsky appealed to the world: "Now I want everyone to be free. More than 1000 people are still behind bars. We must fight for each and every one of them."
GENEVA — Sergei Tikhanovsky, Belarus opposition leader and husband of President-elect Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, addressed the UN Human Rights Council, days after his release from prison, where he had spent five years as a political prisoner under very difficult conditions.
Tikhanovsky was invited by Swiss human rights organization UN Watch, an accredited NGO with the United Nations that can participate in human rights debates at the world body.
