Hard Lessons From the Kitchen and Garden

This is from the IMHO file. Your mileage may vary, perhaps widely. Too bad.

I’ve been called lots of things in my day, but a chef was never one of them.

Here are some of the anecdotal thoughts that blow around in my attic on a given day.

Thanks for all the tips. I know about the wooden spoon over the pot, but I forget to do it. Will need to start doing that. "If you’ve ever had cold pizza for breakfast, it’s a good bet you can handle pie before 8 AM, too." I worked at a pizza place. Always sold the bigger size because I reminded them how good cold, leftover pizza is for breakfast. Always upsell for the best leftovers!
Mopping on your butter. That is why we love English muffins, because the "butter is better." Ha!
Using the rapid cycle on the dishwasher - I will start doing that right now! I always rinse my dishes well and I tell my husband, "The dishwasher is not a garbage disposal!" I would love to save money, water, and electricity by just doing a quick wash. I do that with my washing machine. Clothes being worn, but never filthy. And I don’t think it is so much about the soap as it is the water rushing through the fibers. So there is that also.
Best tip! "My own Grandma Smith taught me to always slice the apples very thin for a pie."
My mom would have a bowl filled with thin sliced apples, covered in sugar adn brown sugar. We would sneak some on our way through the kitchen, then on our way back again. She would complain that there won’t be enough for pie if we keep doing that. Sugared apples? I didn’t care if that was all we ate. Now I love pie crusts, but to this day, I would bet that I could eat the slices straight out of the bowl and be happy!
Thank you for sharing. It is fun and educational.
