When you look at movies like Terminator and see that they put Kamela Harris in charge of dealing with AI, then I think we are right to be concerned. Let us also not forget the episode of Futurama where Fry ends up dating a Lucy Liu bot and there was even a school psa style video called "Don't Date Robots!" I don't want to be a Luddite but I have to wonder if some malevolent force is shaping humanity's technological progression. There is this 4X space game called Stellaris and in this game advanced AI research takes place after FTL spaceflight. I'm not sure if FTL spaceflight is physically possible or if some other technique involving worm hole generation or other means would have to be used to establish long distance space travel in a reasonable timeframe but here we are with our space technology not seeming that much different than when we first entered space and only really an international satellite space station to show for our efforts. We haven't been yo the moon in decades with some of the technology NASA used to get there lost to time. I mean I get that life is different than a scifi story but doesn't it seem strange that AI is on the cusp of advancing someplace disturbing while older technology has effectively languished?
