Absolute freedom of speech is as essential to a Republic as free elections. There has been a lot of discussion and controversy recently around free speech and what limits might be appropriate, if any. I would note that, if any limits are imposed, even for the "best" of reasons, speech is no longer free.
In the interest of clarifying the meaning and value of free speech, I offer the following thoughts.
