JD Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference 2025 is the most powerful defense of free speech you’ll hear this year.

Speaking directly to Europe’s leaders, the U.S. Vice President warned that silencing citizens — whether through UK “buffer zones” that criminalize silent prayer, Scottish letters threatening people for praying in their own homes, or Brussels officials openly planning to shut down social media during unrest — is not strength. It’s fear.

“True security isn’t just about what we’re defending against. It’s about what we’re defending FOR: the voices, consciences, and democratic mandates of our own people.”

He reminded the room that strong democracies don’t collapse from a few foreign ads — they collapse when leaders stop trusting their citizens to think, speak, and vote freely.

Vance closed with an open hand: the Trump administration will fight for everyone’s right to speak, even (and especially) when we disagree.
