Liberty University Requests Fourth Circuit Accept Title VII Appeal

Liberty Counsel is requesting the Fourth Circuit to accept the appeal’s certification and allow Liberty University to appeal this critically important question of religious freedom which can result in controlling the outcome of the case


LYNCHBURG, VA – Liberty Counsel filed a reply brief to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals regarding the Title VII lawsuit, Zinski v. Liberty University, requesting the appeals court accept the lower district court’s certification for expedited consideration to deal with new and complex questions of law regarding religious freedom. The key questions facing the court are whether Sections 702 and 703 of Title VII permit Liberty University to require its employees to maintain the same religious beliefs and practices in agreement with Liberty University’s doctrinal statement and Christian mission. Also, whether Liberty University is exempt from sex discrimination claims for terminating a gender-confused employee who refused to do so.
