RICHMOND, Ky. — The Obama healthcare law requires Americans to buy health insurance starting in 2014 or pay a penalty to the government. The penalty is the higher of a fine of $695.00 or 2.5 percent of your income. If your income is $50,000 and you don’t buy the required “minimum essential coverage,” your 2014 income tax bill will increase by $1,250.00
