Speaker Johnson Is Right, Free Market Should Set Drug Prices, Not Government

A Reuters report released just days ago uncovered that America’s leading drugmakers are raising prices yet again. Due to industry greed, the American people can expect to see more than 140 brands of drugs increase in cost over the next month.

Prior to the increase, on average, pharmaceutical costs are already higher in the United States than in any other country in the world. According to Bloomberg, the average American spends about $1,300 per year on pharmaceuticals. For a year’s supply of a newly launched drug, the costs have risen to $220,000 per year, an increase of more than 20% from 2021.

They seem to want to take us back in time to when we had few Doctors and just for the rich. Medicines were normally made at home with ingredients either grown themselves or bought at a chemists who also might make up something to help you or not? Grandmothers often had family recipes etc. in a not so old cook book 100 yrs. or so I find a few of these things and remember the bottle of vile tasting "medicine" used on us as children and my father insisted that when winter came we all had to have our cod liver oil each and every morning for health. A good dose of boiled rhubarb to clean us out after the winter in the spring etc.

Sounds good to me, now make patents on medicine pass into public domain after 10 years. They make a sheet ton of money, already, and 10 years is plenty to make a profit. If that is too short, make your case, show the books.

Free market can and does set the price of nearly everything discretionary item we buy; however, Rx medicines have become a necessity in our toxic world. People no longer eat healthy foods, and our produce is void of nutrients, especially minerals. Since one can go to Mexico and buy nearly every prescription for two bucks, it seems the U.S., now teetering on bankruptcy, is paying for the entire world's medicines. Bring our drug manufacturing back to the U.S., and prices will go down.
