Alexei Navalny died in a Russian prison this past week. I’m sure neither his name nor his passing will mean much to Americans or Europeans. Most people don’t know who he was. Alexei Navalny was a political dissident on the order of Lech Walesa, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, an opponent of Putin’s and obviously much feared by the dictator and his regime.

I agree with you that America is corrupt and I do fear for the good people of America, but Navalny has nowhere near the stature or character of a Lech Walesa, Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King. I find it shocking to hear someone make the statement that he does.
I've understood that Putin's worst enemy is the Russian Communist Party. Putin's approval rating is above 80% - why should he fear Navalny, whose rating was between one and three percent.
The West is desperate to build its case against Russia, holding Putin responsible for Navalny's death within minutes, and before the slightest investigation. Could 'cooler heads prevail' here?

It's doubtful that Navalny's death was ordered by Putin or anyone in high office, because as a prisoner he had little opportunity to foment agitation in Russia. Of Navalny's two "crimes": stirring up protests at home; and inviting Mandela comparisons in the West: the former was already defused by his imprisonment. Why would the Russian government martyr him and give credence to Western propagandists' vilification of Putin? As this article states, political imprisonment and murder are tools of the US deep state — as with St. Mandela's "liberated" South Africa — so the only question that this incident raises is, who gains by this death? What does the autopsy say.
