Can Milei turn this once-prosperous country around? It will be a monumental task, considering the hold the Perons and Peronism has had on the popular imagination for so long. Perhaps the shadow of Juan Peron can finally be eclipsed by the glow of fre

The Shadow of Juan Peron

The elementary years were generally good for me. Still deep in the awkward stages, I didn’t like going to school, but I found lots of subjects to hold my interest. Fourth grade with Mrs. Miller was challenging with that impossible Palmer handwriting, and sixth grade was tough because Mrs. Holder didn’t appreciate the Goldwater sticker and quote on my notebook. Fifth grade, however was a delight, with the kindly Mrs. Kessler effortlessly keeping good order among her 40 charges, including me. She was firm, but she smiled often and made it clear that she loved her work and loved us. I basked in her glow and gave her my best efforts.

Amazing that while the US, Great Britain, and Venezuela could show the way to prosperity, other countries would follow the Marxist countries in ruination! Then, as if the stupid bucket doesn't pour out its pail of poison enough, you see a prospering country like Venezuela go to the dogs. Watching that happen in real-time, the US and Britain follow the same example! Dumb does as Dumb sees. No common sense at all! We have had so much prosperity and abundance. People who have lived and watched as the Marxists destroyed their lives and liberty, they know the truth and try to warn us. As the oppressed people try to rise above this living hell, they stand together ready to fight for their freedom. Hopefully, we will recognize what it takes before it is too late!
I loved our elementary textbooks, and reading took us to many lands. I remember a picture of women living high up in the mountains in Peru. They were smoking cigars. Bright colored skirts, men’s hats, and smoking cigars. I never forgot that picture. Textbooks and Disney gave us peeks into different cultures. Then there was Frito Bandito, and of course what we learned from the cartoons. So much that was good and bad. Life was simple. My 5th grade social studies book showed pictures of snow on Mt. Fuji and cherry blossoms below. We learned about exports and imports, natural resources, and how different people lived. At that time, most of us were not aware of the evil that was going on in so many places, the cruelty happening to people in other lands. (We mostly only knew that Russia was bad.) It was a lovely time to grow up and reading was one of the most pleasurable pastimes! I am so grateful for books, teachers, and the time we had as children that was not stolen from us by hardships. I am grateful to have been born in America!
On a happier note, thank you for taking me back to the chalkboard. Do you remember the chalk instrument that held 5 lines of chalk? Oh, if it was dragged a bit off it made the most horrible screeching noise. Those warm spring days when the sun was shining and those treasured moments outside of the classroom were like breaking out of jail. New Math was a disaster for me. We had a yellow textbook that was titled SMSG. We referred to it as "Some Man Sure Goofed!"
It was such a big world and we were so small. Now we are bigger and the world seems smaller. The world is splashed upon our TV screens. The lives in other countries used to seem like stories to us. Now they are the realities. Are we learning from it? Thank God for the Dutch farmers. Thank God for people like Milei. Thank God for those who will take a stand against evil! They are heroes in real time!
