Virgil Vaughn of Vulture Village, Vermont, wanted a son to name Virgil, Jr. but ended up with a whole bunch of girls. When the last girl was born, Vivian Vaughn refused to let her be named after her father. “Virgil would be a terrible girl’s name--almost as bad as a boy named Sue,” she said. Finally, she agreed to let the baby’s middle name be Virgilene. Everybody used Alice, her first name, but her playmate, Victor Valentino, who called her Virgilene.
