What happened to the evening news?

What happened to the evening news? It would take many more than 250 words to examine the whole phenomenon. First, the audience changed. We are sensation seeking, celebrity following, attention deficient zombies. We are too lazy or self absorbed to invest a little time and energy in educating ourselves. Sponsor requirements have changed and the whole industry became even more dollar dependent. And the culture of the news changed. News organization have become cozy with Washington, DC and have followed the Hollywood crowd right off the liberal cliff. None of these changes happened in the last 8 years. The seeds for these changes were sewn long ago and the crops replenished annually courtesy of the very institutions of higher learning that taxpayers are funding to a large extent. No longer can we watch an hour of network news to get a snapshot of what is happening around the world. We can't trust that the news team will prioritize the stories fairly, report the details accurately, or provide a balance. In addition, we become desensitized after days and days of nearly 24 hour coverage of some bigger events, loaded with speculation and repeated clips. I guess I'm just old fashioned, I like my news from 6:00 to 7:00 PM and to the point. Good night, Chet. Good night ,David.
