When people can live comfortably enough off government handouts, they lose any incentive to provide for themselves. They become a parasite on society

"Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government." ~ James MadisonIn case you missed it, charity is not an enumerated power in the United States Constitution for the federal government. Although I haven’t personally checked, I seriously doubt that charity is enumerated in any state constitution as a government function. The first government sponsored charity began when the Marxist government of Franklin D. Roosevelt implemented the Social Security Tax originally known as Old Age, Survivor, and Disability Insurance (OASDI). Originally the ultimate beneficiary and their employer paid into this fund, so it was a paid for benefit. Medicare, like Social Security, is a program where employees prepay for some of their old age medical care.
