Why Trump is right (mostly) in disagreeing with Sessions's Russia recusal


It's a tough day for me when the Wall Street Journal editorial page and Andrew McCarthy disagree. But when we're dealing with a legal matter, McCarthy is always your better bet. And when the two recently took on the question of Jeff Sessions's recusal from the Russia investigation, the Journal defended the attorney general against President Trump's complaint that he shouldn't have recused himself. McCarthy disagrees, not because he thinks the president made any sort of strong legal argument, but because the legal argument made by both Sessions and the Journal don't really hold water. Not only that, but McCarthy clearly demonstrates how the Sessions recusal has led to the meandering, out-of-control special counsel investigation with which we are now stuck - quite unnecessarily.
