Reflecting on the Imminent Dangers to the Republic on Constitution Day

Today is Constitution Day, and if one considers what has happened in the United States since the beginning of the new millennium, it is amazing that the U.S.Constitution still stands. America has been attacked by foreign and domestic enemies again and again. Just last week, Americans remembered the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedies and commemorated Patriot Day to honor those brave men and women who risked their lives for the sake of others on September 11, 2001. And since Americans annually celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution on September 17th, these two days are forever entwined on the calendar. But there is a deeper significance that binds these two days of remembrance.

Patriot Day commemorates the courageous actions of heroes who served their fellow human beings during an attack upon American soil. Constitution Day commemorates the day the Founders signed the document that became the Law of the Land and created that "American soil." The 9/11 tragedies signify a brutal and deadly attack upon the United States Constitution and our American values. It also was a direct attack upon the world and capitalism as well. Osama bin Laden stated as much. This is why the celebration of Constitution Day is so important now as the attacks on 9/11 were part of an attack on the United States that continues to this day not only from foreign enemies, but also from domestic enemies as well. It is noteworthy that over the weekend President Donald Trump confirmed that Osama bin Laden's son, Hamza bin Laden, had been "killed in a United States counterterrorism operation in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region." The statement is somewhat significant due to the remembrance of the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedies. However, it is unclear when in the past couple of years Hamza bin Laden, a leader of al Qaeda, had been taken out. It was not recently, and it has been confirmed previously on different occasions. President Trump said "Hamza bin Laden was responsible for planning and dealing with various terrorist groups." Trump's statement clarified that: "The loss of Hamza bin Laden not only deprives al-Qa'ida of important leadership skills and the symbolic connection to his father, but undermines important operational activities of the group." Previously, the U.S. State Department confirmed from the U.S. Navy SEAL raid in 2011 that items seized from Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan indicated he was grooming Hamza bin Laden to replace him as al Qaeda's leader.

Osama bin Laden's "Letter to the American People"

Osama bin Laden was the leader of the al Qaeda terrorists who admitted his involvement in the deadly terror attacks upon American soil on September 11, 2001. This is related to Constitution Day since the actions on that day were part of an attack upon the Constitution and American values. Another part of that attack upon America and the world was a letter that Osama bin Laden sent to the American people in 2002. In Osama bin Laden's "Letter to the American People," he condemned the United States as the "worst civilization witnessed by history of mankind." The leader of al Qaeda also denounced U.S. support of the "Jews" in Israel. Additionally, he called upon Americans to embrace Islam and to reject the immorality that pervaded the nation and specifically the evils of "fornication, gambling, homosexuality, intoxicants, and trading with interest." One other objective was that he encouraged the American people to rise up against their corrupt government. The purpose of that uprising was ostensibly to have the American public to revolt against the capitalist system. Those objectives seem like honest religious-oriented objectives to many--who are confused. If this attack and subsequent terror attacks are essentially about a religion attacking or being able to destroy an "opposing" religion, why did bin Laden bother with the U.S. support of Israel or the capitalist system? And another more serious question is why does some part of his 2002 letter seem quite similar to the attack the 2020 Democrat presidential candidates are launching against fundamental American values embedded in the Constitution and against the capitalist system?

Osama bin Laden praised the hijackers as freedom fighters exhibiting "defiant spirits" in a fight against an evil oppressive empire. The reason for Americans being killed was the "jihad" or religious war against the infidel, and the suicide squad of 19 who carried out the lethal plans were acting in the name of freedom. It begs the question: Freedom for whom? Osama bin Laden's bold precepts and his proclamations appended cleverly to the fundamentals of Islam did not begin just with his attacks on 9/11. It began many years before with the freedom fighters, or mujahadeen, in Afghanistan. In Lawrence Wright's well-researched "The Looming Tower" (eight weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and awarded the Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction), he details how ideas generated a movement of people to fight against one of the most powerful nations on the planet. The Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan in 1979, and the inhabitants were at the mercy of the powerful military might of this superpower. Wright recounts a very revealing stance of Palestinian scholar, Abdullah Azzam, who Wright claims was "the most influential figure in bin Laden's involvement with the Afghan cause." A sort of parable was provided by Azzam when he compared the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan to a drowning child. He painted a visual of a group of people walking along a beach. They see a child about to drown. The child, he suggests is Afghanistan. Saving the drowning child is an obligation for all swimmers who witness him. "If someone moves to save him, the sin falls from the rest. But, if no one moves, all the swimmers are in sin." Thus Azzam argues that the jihad against the Soviets is the duty of each Muslim individually, as well as of the entire Muslim people, and that all are in sin until the invader is expelled.

Marxist-Socialist-Progrssivess and Islamist terrorists

This precept is at the heart of why a great many of militant Islamist terrorists seek to destroy the United States today. This is really not reflective of the entirety of Islam. Jihad has been artificially imposed as one of the "pillars" of Islam. Westerners have a hard time with making intelligent distinctions in many respects, and this difficulty is evidenced in history time and time again. There is one more item at the heart of Islamist terrorism and destruction and bin Laden also addressed it in his letter as he could not refrain from preaching to the American people. He boldly stated: "rather than ruling by the Shariah of Allah... You separate religion from your policies, contradicting the pure nature which affirms Absolute Authority to the Lord and your Creator." This may be what differentiates the Marxist-Socialist-Progrssives from the Islamist terrorists. The Marxist-Socialist-Progressives prefer separation of church and state, and they use the false precept as a shield and as a spear for political advancement and control. The Islamist terrorists are primarily absolutists - tyrants with religion as the justification for their tyranny over a people. They do not tolerate disobedience to Shariah Law, they do not tolerate other viewpoints, they do not allow for freedoms given by a benevolent Creator, as laid forth by the Declaration of Independence. The Marxist-Socialist-Progressives are just as absolutist, only from a completely different perspective: they do not believe in God, and have no use for God, and man is meant to control entire populations of human beings. Yet, they are afraid of religion because they know the power of people who are willing to die for what they hold true. They will attempt to control or eliminate religion, as Marx stated: "religion is the opiate of the people." Many contemporary Democrats would agree. Yet, the Islamist terrorists and the Marxist-Socialist-Progressives could work together for the sake of undermining and sabotaging one of the greatest nations and strongest governments in world history - despite the claim of Osama bin Laden. Both are evil entities that seek to control entire geographic areas on the planet as well as the vast populations of human beings under their rule. Both entities are fundamentally tyrannical. The rise of tyranny develops through the deliberate efforts to control what people believe to be the "truth" and by marginalizing any voices of dissent.

Osama bin Laden's rant against America and the capitalist system

The development of oppression advances when only one side of the "truth" is tolerated in whatever version of "political correctness" is permitted in public. The slow encroachment of intolerance then begins to marginalize the minority opinions or beliefs. The progression of tyranny advances when a population loses connection with the values and ideals that they truly believe in, and eventually fear and ignorance swallow a people. In 2019, radicalized variations of extremist enemies of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution are alive and well and will continue to work to do whatever it takes to advance their agenda. Both enemy elements threaten the United States of America as citizens know it to exist at this time. Both represent enemies that exist inside and outside of the nation. Today, there are those in America who no longer care about the Constitution as it was intended to be used for the people to govern themselves. The political agenda that leaders of both enemy elements, and those domestic as well as foreign, are advancing has strands of sentiment similar to Osama bin Laden's rant against America and the capitalist system. He was simply one man outside of the U.S. with a limited amount of resources and capability. Today, there are those in America who voice just as much hatred against the nation as he did in word and in deed. Is that not enough clear and present danger to awaken the patriots who love this nation? All Americans, who love this nation are facing the question of what can be done? Simply put: Will we choose to preserve and protect the Republic, or to do nothing due to fear or ignorance, or still worse -- due to apathy? Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Have American citizens become so complacent in their comfortable lifestyles that they would forfeit fundamental freedom? Have American Christians become so complacent with the "prosperity gospel" that they would not be willing to die for what they hold true. If these observations are accurate, then Ben Franklin was right, and the nation will no longer qualify to hold on to our Constitutional Republic.
