Let Us be the Generation  

It wasn't part of God's original plan for humans to rule over other humans.  He created us to have fellowship with Him.  We were created in His image.  However, all that got fouled up when Eve listened to the serpent and Adam followed Eve into disobedience which severed the bond between God and humanity.   Lucifer became the god of this age and humanity started its long and dismal effort to return to God on our own terms.  First, we tried to build a tower to heaven.  When that didn't work, we began inventing religion after religion all based on works.  We sought to climb a stairway to heaven made of rules, traditions, sacrifices, and ceremonies.  Nothing worked.  All we ever managed to do was subjugate some people to others who may have pretended to know the way but always knew in their hearts they didn't even know where they were let alone know where they were going.

Just as in religion man's original and metastasizing sin led to the oppression of the masses by self-anointed elites, so too in the secular realm. Since we refused to let God lead us humanity has been set upon like sheep by the ravenous wolves of conquest, heredity, and whoever the nameless faceless bureaucracy belches up.  All hail the leaders of men!   Might makes right plus time and traditions equal legitimacy.  For the vast expanse on human history emperors, empresses, kings, queens, lords, and ladies have run rough shod over the powerless bodies and lives of we the people.  A few tiny sparks shined for moments in the darkness.  Several of the city states of ancient Greece and the early Roman Republic presented a façade of republican freedom sitting atop slave populations like a beautiful laminate over worm rotted wood.  With these few exceptions the history of humanity until 1776 was one long parade of human degradation at the hands of powerful elites above reproach and beyond control.     Since that watershed moment when the American Revolution lit a flame of freedom that sent sparks in all directions a flickering light of individual freedom, personal liberty, and economic independence burns like a lonely candle in a very dark cave.  Today that candle is sputtering in an ill wind promising to blow no one any good.   The valiant attempt by we the people to carve out a space of the free exercise of those unalienable rights endowed by our creator founded the world's first nation dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.  And what this led to and what it requires of us was summed up well by President Reagan, "If we look to the answer as to why for so many years we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before. Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on earth.  The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price."   We have recently experienced a dramatic change in America's direction.

In February of 2020 President Trump was unassailable.  The strongest economy in memory, the triumphs of peace in the Mideast, the winding down of the forever wars, coupled with finally gaining control of our southern border had him cruising to re-election.     Then in March the only non-politician outsider ever elected president allowed hysterical doomsayers to convince him to shut down the economy over a new type of flu which the CDC now says, "if you have the virus between the ages of 0 to 70, you have a 99% survival rate. And if you're over 70, the survival rate is nearly 95%."  This gave blue swing states the opportunity to unconstitutionally change election laws opening a pandora's box of Chicago-style voting procedures and counting techniques resulting in the election of Place-holder Joe Biden and the President-in-Waiting Kamala Harris, the restoration of the establishment.  And thus, the wildcard win for the populists and their in-your-face leader was beaten back by the power of corporate money, media, and lemmings at the polls.   Prediction: With the final passage of HR 1 and its companion S 1, or as our tongue-in-cheek Congress call it the "For the People Act of 2019" President Harris will win the election of 2024 by the biggest landslide in America.  She may even carry all 52 states.  And that long dark winter President Biden promised during his mail-it-in campaign will fall like the polar vortex over what was once the land of the free and the home of the brave.   One leader is gone, and people are no longer terrified by his mean old tweets.  A new leader has left his basement in Delaware and is shuffling around in the White House signing whatever is put in front of him and answering preapproved questions from notes.  We're all once again safe and secure in the arms of the perpetually re-elected and their civil service nomenklatura with their life-time sinecure, top-shelf benefits, and golden parachute retirements.  The terrible orange man is gone, and mediocracy once again settles like a fog over Moscow on the Potomac.    There are basically two types of leaders.  Those who use people for their own interests and those who sacrifice themselves for the interests of the people.  The first type represents worldly authority, the second godly.

The Pharaoh in the story of the Exodus is the archetype of a world leader.  He was willing to let his whole nation be destroyed even up to the death of the first born of every family just to preserve his own power and privilege.  In this same biblical story Moses is the shining example of godly leadership.  As the Israelites wandered through the desert, they rejected and resisted Moses.  Yet Moses loved the people so much he offered to give his own life to appease the wrath of God so that they might live.     Today this kind of godly leadership is based on the example of Christ.  Paul tells us in Philippians what Christ sacrificed to lead us into eternity:   Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.    Or as Matthew tells us, "And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."   Worldly leadership is all about the leader.  Grasping for and holding on to power is not just the main goal, it's the only goal.  For the worldly, leadership is an opportunity for self-aggrandizement and profit.     For the godly it's an opportunity for self-sacrifice and service.

President Trump, who made his money building things, changing the skylines of cities around the world, running multitudes of businesses, and employing thousands of people lost more than a billion dollars while serving as America's leader.  By contrast, President Biden, Middle Class Joe, who has worked for the government his entire adult life or cashed in on the benefits of doing so is worth approximately nine million dollars.   The Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan left us some wisdom that might help us gain a perspective of where we stand.  

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free."   "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We'll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we'll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness."   "If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth."   "I believe with all my heart that standing up for America means standing up for the God who has so blessed our land. We need God's help to guide our nation through stormy seas. But we can't expect Him to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him over on the shelf in our day-to-day living."  

Let us strive not to be the generation that dropped the torch.  Instead let us be the generation that turned back to God so He would heal our land.
