We Wrestle Not Against Flesh and Blood
Watching the recent political theater that our ever more divided country serves up as leadership reminds me that the natural man cannot receive the things of God for they’re foolishness to him.  The mockery of the late night political hacks masquerading as comedians or of the not even close to being funny Democrat shills haunting SNL reminds us that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

I wonder if someone came forward and said that Nancy Pelosi sexually abused them when they were a minor but they can’t remember where, or when, how they got there, how they got home, and everyone they said was a witness denied it … do you think the Congressional Ethics Committee would investigate it?  Would the ABCCBSNBCPBSCNNMSNBC Cartel do wall-to-wall panel discussion about the validity of the claims?

How Can A Moral Wrong Be A Civil Right

How Can A Moral Wrong Be A Civil Right
As an American Historian my favorite area of study and discussion is the writing and ratification of the Constitution. It isn’t because this is the beginning because the 167-year-long colonial period became the world which birthed the Revolution, and without the Revolution there would be no America. So the colonial period is crucial for identifying many currents and trends in our society, many of which still impact us today. Then why does this short period of one year capture my attention so much? Perhaps, it stands out because this is the cradle, the bedrock of American civil society. It is here that we can find the roots of the issue I wish to discuss today.

Choose This Day Who You Will Serve

In our current confrontation with Radical Islam the battle lines are portrayed as those between a secular society, us and a religious society, them.  I reject this portrayal as a betrayal of the faith of our Founders and of those patriotic Americans who still hold fast to Jesus as God and Savior, we too are a religious people.

America was founded as a Christian country.  Anyone who denies that has not studied enough History or has been sadly misled.

If you’re not ready for Christ to return today … You’re not ready.

Bill Clinton – Gave Nukes to North Korea

Barrack Obama – Gave Billions in cash to Iran

Hillary Clinton – Gave uranium to Russia

Trump – Gave tax cuts to America

Here’s a Free Gift

Jul 27, 2018 — Dr. Robert R. Owens

Here’s a Free Gift
As a retired pastor,  I am still amazed at the number of people who came forward week after week repenting of sins and seeking salvation.  It was often the same people week after week.  No matter how much I preached it, no matter how much I taught it, so many never seemed to grasp the idea that the cleansing of sins, salvation, and righteousness are free gifts given to us by our Father.

People would cry, “I’ve been seeking after God for years.  I’ve laid at the altar and pleaded over and over for God to guide me, to save me, to help me, and nothing happened.  I leave the altar the same poor sinner as when I went up there.”

It Takes Faith to Be an Atheist

It Takes Faith to Be an Atheist
I once had enough faith in myself to believe there was no God.  I had enough of that self-centered faith to believe the entire universe sprang from a Big Bang.  I could believe that Big Bang came from an unbelievably dense unbelievably small point that for some unexplained reason suddenly exploded.  I could believe that after the explosion this unbelievably dense unbelievably small point expanded into everything that is.  I could believe that everything that is now expanding would eventually stop expanding and then contract back into that unbelievably dense unbelievably small point that would then eventually explode again and the entire process would happen again over and over from eternity to eternity.  Yes, I had enough self-centered faith to believe all that.

The Meaning of The Book of Revelation

The Meaning of The Book of Revelation
A twisted mess of conflicting desires.  We want what we want until we get it,  then we wonder why we wanted it to begin with. So often the wanting is much more fulfilling than the getting because the having is always transitory and the losing is inevitable.

Does that about sum up your experience in the world?  It did mine until I met Jesus and committed my life to Him.  The answer never quite fit the question.  Or was it that the question never quite fit the answer.  Either way I always ended up half way home half of the time standing on a cold corner waiting to die alone.

Why is More Important Than How

Why is More Important Than How
Does the immensity of creation ever overwhelm you?  Does the fact that when you lay your hand on the cold hard surface of a table there is actually more space than matter in the table numb your mind?  When you’re sitting on a beach letting the sand run through your fingers have you ever reflected on the thought that there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on the earth?  Has the image of reality extending as deep through a microscope as it does through a telescope make you grasp for understanding when all you can possibly understand is that you can’t understand this immensity at all?

Science tries to explain it all.

If God is So Good Why is There Evil?

Jun 21, 2018 — Dr. Robert R. Owens

If God is So Good Why is There Evil?
This question has confounded philosophers for ages and led countless millions to blame God for all the evil in the world.  We must have faith if we’re going to question whether God is the author of evil since the Bible says of God, “You are good, and the source of good.”

We need faith to doubt God and instead ask the question, “If God is good why is there evil?”

Why do I say that we need faith to question God?

A Childless Father Who Has a Son

A Childless Father Who Has a Son
I am blessed.  My wife gave me a son. He was hers before he was mine.  Then he became ours.  In my heart he is always mine and I feel as if I am his Dad.  But it often feels like a homerun record with an asterisk, an almost.  You see, I’m a step-father.  That’s as close as I will ever come to experiencing the life of a father and for that I am forever thankful to God for I am a childless father who has a son.

I know the pride of watching my son play little league.  Together we experienced the joy of victory and the agony of defeat.  I encouraged him to play music.  I helped with homework.  I watched him march in a band.  I raced against the stop lights time after time to make it to events and meetings with teachers, doctor’s appointments, and birthdays.  I watched him graduate grade school after driving him from one town to another so he could remain in the same school with his friends after we moved.  I blessed God when he graduated high school and earned scholarships to college.  I was happy when he chose the girl my wife and I prayed for long before we ever met her, enjoyed being the father of the groom, and I love my grandchildren with all my heart.  I am truly blessed.  My wife gave me a son.

A Soap Opera That Never Ends Will Finally End. Then What?

Step out of the darkness and into the light and let this be the first day of the rest of your life
All my life I’ve been in love with History.  I learned at an early age that if you love reading you can live a thousand lifetimes and if you’re wise you have the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others.  I’ve certainly experienced the former while unfortunately not doing much of the latter.

My love of History metastasized into a love of Political Science.  These two intellectual “Loves of my Life” have given me countless hours of joy lost in reading, mired in thinking, and entertained by speculation.

Now as I enter what are called the golden years, though I believe they might be made of brass, having spent several decades teaching both subjects, I feel a need to share some insights not on particulars but instead on something that is usually disparaged and often dismissed, generalities.

The Only Way Back to God

May 31, 2018 — Dr. Robert R. Owens

The Only Way Back to God
If Jesus is the Son of God, if God became man and walked among us, if the incarnate deity suffered and died to pay for the sins of the world, if He descended into hell and took the keys of death from the devil, if He rose again from the dead justifying all who become one with Him, if He rose into heaven and anointed the ultimate altar with His blood offering up the payment for the fall of man, what is there that can be of more importance than that?

If out of all the millions of books ever written God wrote one book, one set of writings infused with His Spirit, and alive with His Word, what can compare with that?

Why I am No Longer a Conservative Republican

Why I am No Longer a Conservative Republican

Maybe it’s just me but I’m tired of the same old same old in our politics. The big-box monopoly parties have morphed into two sides of the same coin, two heads on the same bird of prey. Today our choice boils down to the Conservative Republican tax and spend, infringe personal liberty, and outsource or sovereignty policies or the Liberal Democrat tax and spend, infringe personal liberty, and outsource or sovereignty policies. But of course, since we don’t want to throw away our vote we must vote for one of the big boys. Conservative? Liberal? Tweedle Dee Or Tweedle Dum?

As a voter I’ve had my Damascus Road experience, the scales have fallen from my eyes, and I have reached the point where I would rather throw away my vote voting for someone who might actually try to find a different way to operate our government besides taxing like the Sun King and spending like a drunken sailor. (By the way, do you know the difference between how a drunken sailor spends and how the Republicrats spend? The drunken sailor is spending his own money.)

Trump v Mueller Who Gets Who First?

Trump v Mueller Who Gets Who First?
The recent raid by the Robert Mueller’s witch hunters on President Trump’s lawyer’s offices shows that we are nearing Act III.  The ever expanding search for a crime is reportedly now looking into a campaign donation that was made by a pro-Russian Ukrainian oligarch to the Trump Foundation in September 2015.  The donation was reportedly made after then-candidate Donald Trump gave a 20-minute speech at a European conference that promoted closer ties between Ukraine and the West.

Once Again Sing the Chorus Build the Wall Build the Wall Build the Wall

Once Again Sing the Chorus Build the Wall Build the Wall Build the Wall
In the last presidential election we had the choice between the last nail in our coffin and a chance.  We now have a chance.  America’s place on the world stage is being clarified by President Trump.  But we need to keep things in perspective.

We need to keep our eye on the prize.  What good does it do to gain the world if we lose the homeland?  It was mainly domestic issues that drove everyone to the polls to prevent Hillary’s coronation.  We want America back.  We want the shining city on a hill back not the shabby globalist collective Obama, Hillary and the rest of the Progressives have been shoving down our throat.

What Easter Means to Me

Mar 28, 2018 — Dr. Robert R. Owens

What Easter Means to Me
I look at my life before Christ and I am struck by the fact that it doesn’t seem like my life.  I was born again on Palm Sunday in 1980.  I was thirty years old.  That has been thirty-eight years ago.  When I was first saved,  I mourned for all the years I had spent wasting my life trying to do it on my own.  I remember praying and asking God to give me as many years to serve Him as I had wasted denying Him.  Now, that is just one of the answered prayers in my life.

From the first day I accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour,  I have never denied Him and standing on the faith He has given me, I never will.  Have I always served Him?  Yes.  Have I always served Him well?  He will be the judge.  Have I ever fallen short of what He would have me be?  Yes, constantly, consistently, and often consciously.  Just as the greatest sinner and the greatest saint,  I will stand or fall based on His grace.

Random thoughts on Crime and Gun Control and the State of the Union
Why would someone be upset about deporting children but not upset about aborting them?

Democrats want DACA. Trump offers DACA but they can’t vote for 12 years. Democrats turn that down. Does that show what they really want?

Today is Yesterday’s Tomorrow

Today is Yesterday's Tomorrow
Science fiction has predicted many of today’s realities from cell phones to tablets. Many things that are today part of History like walking on the moon, organ transplants, and space stations were once flights of fancy.

Futurists build current events on a foundation of History to provide a launching pad for visions of what is to come. One of the most widely recognized Futurists is Alvin Toffler whose seminal works include Future Shock and The Third Wave. He is also the one who told us, “Change is not merely necessary to life - it is life.”

Quit Disarming Teachers

Quit Disarming Teachers
As one of the millions of teachers in America I know there is one thing I don’t ever want to be…a fish in a barrel.

Think of the hero teachers who’ve thrown their bodies in front of students taking bullets fired by mentally deranged mass murderers. If these heroes had had a weapon does anyone doubt they would’ve used it to protect those students? Aspiring mass murders who seek out gun free zones to commit their atrocities are inherent cowards. And they’re also untrained and unprepared for anyone with the ability to stand up to them. As soon as someone with a gun shows up they either kill themselves or die.

How Can You Stay So Optimistic?

How Can You Stay So Optimistic?
People ask often me “How can you spend so much time following the news and writing on the bizarre twists and turns of our political theater of the absurd and still remain so happy and optimistic?”

The answer is, “It’s easy because my hope is in Christ and all of this is just a soap opera.”
