That’s little Yorkie-poo, ‘Mory’, traveling in princely Polish style in the back seat of a car on Tuesday, the little guy that the sadly missed, late Eddie Zawadzki, age 55, called “my little ‘szceniak’ “Mory/‘Wojtek who barks in English and Polish”. All of those traveling to Eddie’s funeral on Saturday will go with slightly lighter hearts. “Mory is home at our house safe and sound. Thank you so much for all of your help with the rescue of Mory. I have attached a photo of him during the car ride, Rachelle MacSweeney wrote Canada Free Press (CFP) on Tuesday. In the shock and confusion of Eddie’s death by a massive heart attack, Mory had ended up at a local animal shelter, and there he had remained for almost a week, staring dolefully from behind the bars of a cage.
One can imagine the tail-wagging joy when Dr. George Jackowski, his wife, Janice and daughter, Rachelle came to rescue him. Eddie’s tail-wagging Polish Prince, Mory, would have recognized them because it was the Jackowski family with whom Mory had stayed during Eddie’s extended hospital stay two years ago. It was Saturday of the long weekend when a down-hearted CFP posted an adoption request for the little, 5-year-old Yorkie-Poo on Eddie’s Facebook page. Mory isn’t cat friendly, and Eddie’s sister, Christine, who couldn’t take him in because of her two cars, worried about him. We were overjoyed when the Facebook request brought this response from Rachelle: “We are so extremely sad to hear of Eddie’s passing. He is perhaps one of the kindest people we have known and will miss him. My name is Rachelle and my parents (George & Janice Jackowski) and I, are friends of Eddie’s. When Eddie had a health emergency a couple of years ago and was in the hospital for an extended period of time, my parents (George & Janice) rescued from the animal shelter his pets. We would really like to adopt Mory if he is still available for adoption and to give him a loving home like Eddie would have wanted for him.”

An anxious Christine and CFP started counting down the hours waiting for the animal shelter to reopen after the Labour Day Weekend. That Mory is home with a loving family will come as heartening news for Eddie’s many grieving friends attending his funeral service on Saturday. Dog lovers everywhere are convinced that the Creator provided the dog, whose name is His own spelled backwards, as ‘Guardian Angels of the Tail-Wagging Kind’. Even those who don’t believe in angels would likely concede that dogs are mankind’s most loyal companions. True believer Eddie Zawadzki believed in guardian angels. Eddie’s, Mory was a guardian angel who waited patiently until his master could walk him again on an artificial leg. “...Remember to treat these angels that we are so blessed to share the earth with, with love and respect every day,” he wrote about dogs this time last year. I can still recall Eddie’s delight when he told me that the first time his Mother Wanda smiled “in the longest time” was on the day that he brought Mory home as a puppy.

Mory went everywhere with Eddie and Wanda, even when they crossed the American border for another one of Eddie’s many book signings. Rachelle couldn’t possibly have been more right when she wrote, about giving Mory “a loving home like Eddie would have wanted for him.” “...Remember to treat these angels that we are so blessed to share the earth with, with love and respect every day.” Your friends, the Jackowskis remembered, Eddie. They rescued Mory and took him home with them. God bless Rachelle and her wonderful parents for making the saddest of times for Eddie’s friends just a tad less sad. Funeral services for Eddie will be held 3 p.m., Saturday in the Butler Chapel of the Turner and Porter Funeral Home:
4933 Dundas Street West Etobicoke ON, Telephone 416-231-2283
