Activists In Public Office Throwing Gas On Tragic Residential School Scandal

For the sake of peace and stability in both Canada and the U.S., we’ve got to stop electing activists to our governments. Once sworn in, activist public officials do not work for the countries they were elected to serve, but only for the single issue causes that spurred their elections to public office in the first place. A perfect example of activists in government at work comes full force in the continuing burning and vandalizing of churches in Canada.

“Since the start of June, Canada has seen a wave of vandalism and suspected arson attacks on churches in several provinces. (Breitbart, July 7, 2021)

“The church attacks are believed to be linked to the alleged discovery of unmarked graves linked to the Canadian residential school system, a system of forced assimilation run largely by the Canadian government and the Roman Catholic church.”

The now defunct Residential School System, inflicted upon indigenous Canadian society by Liberal governments from as far back as the 1870s, has, for reasons unknown, reached the zenith in Canadian scandals—without the backup of documentation or proof. “A spree of arson and other acts of destruction have been occurring against Christian churches, focused mostly on Indigenous Catholic congregations. The acts range from petty vandalism to lighting fires in or around the churches, destroying many.” (WesternStandard, July 27, 2021) In other words, the same indigenous people who lost thousands of children in the Canadian government’s handling of the ill-fated Canadian Residential School System, are now being burned out of their present-day Houses of Worship.

“As of publication, there have been almost 23 attacks against churches – including at least five completely destroyed by fires, at least three damaged by fires, and more than 15 vandalized to varying degrees.”

And it’s not just the indigenous congregations being burned out of their churches, but refuges like the Vietnamese.

“Among the latest suspected church arsons was a blaze that took place at the House of Prayer Alliance Church in southeast Calgary, Alberta, on Monday. Police have stated that they believe the fire was intentionally set and are investigating the case as arson. No suspects have been identified so far. (Breitbart) “The church largely serves members of the Vietnamese community, and according to Pastor Thai Nguyen, many of those who attend services at the church are refugees. “We are Vietnamese refugees here. So maybe the people who do this don’t know,” Mr Nguyen said and added: “If anybody do [sic] this so they should know that we (are) victims too, before we came here to find a new life.” “The arson attack comes just days after another church in Alberta that caters to African refugees was vandalised as well.

The attacks follow news of more than 1,000 children placed in unmarked graves at Indian residential schools. Canada forced Native Americans (referred to as “First Nations” in Canada) to attend the boarding schools in an act that activists decry as a form of cultural genocide. “On June 21, arsonists targeted two Roman Catholic churches in tribal territory in British Columbia (B.C.): Sacred Heart Mission Church of Penticton, and St. Gregory Mission Church on Osoyoos land. On June 26, arsonists burned two more Catholic churches in B.C. to the ground. Authorities also found that St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Gitwangak First Nations land in B.C. had been set on fire on June 26, but firefighters extinguished the blaze, mostly saving the church, Catholic News Agency reported. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said all the fires were “suspicious” and local leaders attributed them to arson. “Yes, that’s happening in 2021. “Just as happened here in the U.S. last year, leaders in Canada embraced the violence that raged in the summer of 2020 because it all played into their warped social narrative. When elected officials are giving a wink and a nod to violence, it only follows that the violence will continue, if not escalate.”

She is smart, principled, thoughtful, fierce in the best way,” Berns-McGown, who describes herself as a “Biracial Jewish Muslim”, wrote on Tuesday. “You know you’re effective when ppl who support inequity & the old racist colonial ways come at you. Change is gonna come regardless, & Harsha is a true leader,” she added.” “The comments come days after Bahrain-born South Asian Harsha Walia commented on a Vice report on two Roman Catholic churches being burned down with the comment: “Burn it all down.” “Berns-McGown is not the first person to come to the defence of Walia. Lawyer Naomi Sayers commented that she would “help [Walia] burn it all down… And also, I would help defend anyone charged with arson if they actually did burn things.” “Burn it all down. Doesn’t literally mean, burn it down. But just in case, I can also defend, both civil and criminal,” she later clarified."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau—who tossed the burning ball of the residential school scandal into the courtyard of the Roman Catholic Church—is more activist than leader

Berns-McGown was elected in 2018 as MPP for Beaches-East York. At press time, no member of the Ontario Legislature had called her out for her support of Harsha Walia.

“Earlier this week, survivors of the residential school system called for an end to attacks on churches, with survivor Jessie Malcolm stating: “It’s not going to bring back anybody.” (Breitbart) “Burning down churches is not in solidarity with us Indigenous people,” Jenn Allan-Riley, a daughter of a residential school survivor, said and added: “Whoever is doing this, you’re going to wake up a very ugly, evil spirit in this country.”

“Indigenous leaders have condemned the attacks and called for more peaceful approaches to process the strong feelings of rage, frustration, and pain brought on by the recent discoveries of the unmarked graves.(WesternStandard) “To burn things is not our way,” said Perry Bellegarde, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. “Our way is to build relationships and come together.”

In his own way Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau—who tossed the burning ball of the residential school scandal into the courtyard of the Roman Catholic Church—is more activist than leader. A married man with three children, he self-identifies as a “feminist”. Even though his late father former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau was in office for part of the time when the more than hundred-year-old residential schools were de rigueur, Trudeau the younger takes no blame for shifting the scandal over to Catholic nuns and priests.

Trudeau has, however demanded that Pope Francis apologize for the residential school tragedy on Canadian soil. Tragically, Trudeau has managed to make a political football out of the unmarked graves of thousands of indigenous children—and has yet to state publicly that the abuse of indigenous children in government-created residential schools had been ongoing on for the better part of the last century. The hypocrisy of activists in public office claiming to care about minority children is mind-blowing. Meanwhile, until the electorate stops voting activists in to public office, the same activist politicians will continue to abuse the very people they claim to be there to protect.
