All oil from the Alberta oil sands is heavy crude and must be refined twice, first in a heavy crude upgrader then once again through another refinery process before that high quality oil can be made into light products such as gasoline. After the final refining of the upgraded oil is complete, the resulting light oil is of the highest grade and therefore the best quality and has the least impurities compared to normal oil taken from conventional oil wells.
The amount of gasoline produced per barrel of upgraded oil from oil sands is higher than conventional oil. Even diesel fuel made from upgraded oil is of a higher quality final product than conventional oil. This allows for the production of ultra low sulfur diesel ( ULSD ), required for all 2007 and newer diesel trucks sold in North America. It's as clean as you can get if no bio portion is added to the low sulfur diesel.
There is no DNA tag on the gasoline or diesel fuel showing the source of the oil that was used to make the final product. This is why I say "ignorance is bliss" when these mayors pretend to be clean and green. They are in fact pretenders of the worst kind because they are speaking from ignorance. In fact half of a gallon of gasoline may be Mexican crude and half from Iran if one batch of crude is added to an almost empty tank feeding the refinery that was from another country. There is just no way to tell where that gasoline originated. These mayors are relying on your ignorance. They think you are stupid.
These mayors are trying to show they have power when in fact they are powerless in their actions and words. Refined products are cleaner from tar sands or oil sands base oil because of the double refining process. It takes very little time to ship that upgraded oil from Alberta through the many pipelines from Canada to the USA. It creates almost no pollution to pump the Taliban free oil through the pipelines compared to shipping middle east oil by ocean and then unloading in Houston for refining in refineries there.
All the profits from the Canadian oilsands fields, upgraders, refineries on both sides of the border, pipelines and final products from American refineries, go to the very shareholders that invest in them on the North American stock exchanges.
Anti-American and anti-west stock market share owners do not get the profits because the hate the west so much, they don’t invest here. The various pension funds of American state and city government pensions make some of those profits. These mayors are two faced.
Canada will boost oil exports to the USA another 1 1/2 million barrels per day over the next 3 years. I say to those American mayors, shut your faces or else we just might sell the cleanest oil available from these massive oil sands to other countries.
There is a huge pipeline from Alberta that runs to the Pacific Ocean just north of Vancouver where ocean going ships load up LNG and crude oil for China. They love clean Canadian oil.
Even the diesel fuel made in Canada is cleaner than European diesel fuel. They would love to buy clean Canadian diesel if you blowhard mayors want to blow smoke. When the middle eastern countries run out of oil 75 years from now, Canada will still be pumping it to those who want to buy it. Maybe the children and grandchildren of those blowhard mayors will come to work in the oil fields of Canada.
In fact the world's most expert oil sands engineer is from Venezuela and he is the head professor at the University of Alberta's oil program. Hugo Chavez and his big mouth chased him up here. The University of Alberta pays higher salaries for its professors than any university in the world. Oil money. Black gold, Texas tea. Jed Clampet hated blowhards too.
Let the marxist Obama just try to renegotiate the NAFTA agreement if he gets elected. Canada holds the (black) gold so we make the rules, dummies.
