An open letter to our military

I am so terribly sorry for the treatment you are getting at the hands of an administration bent on punishing Americans for the sequester. You should never be on the receiving end of budget cuts. You should never suffer in the crossfire of the American political arena. When I read of hot meals being removed from your day, I am angry and embarrassed. I hope you know that the American people are outraged at the shabby treatment of you. We understand that the freedoms that remain are thanks to you.

I cannot fathom a system where IRS agents are making dance videos while you are denied food. I cannot stomach the notion that the Senators and Congressmen who are making life and death decisions for you have the best benefits and perks that the taxpayer cannot afford. They get free mailing while we can't even get your absentee ballots to you or back in a timely manner. I am furious over a promise made to retired military to provide them "Tricare" for life which is now being slowly eroded. When I think of you grace, humor, bravery, sacrifice and patriotism, I am embarrassed. You deserve better and we can do better. I am committed to the task of fixing our broken country that you have preserved for us. Please know that the majority of the American people do not agree with the cuts that have been inflicted on you. Thank you for your service. Virginia Sparks Rotonda West, FL
