Anti-gun bandwagon

There is shock, grief, anger, and fear in the hearts of every American following the terrible shooting in Newtown, Ct. Few of us can imagine the pain and horror of losing a loved one in such a senseless way.

What frustrates me the most is the misplaced focus. Here we had a family in crisis. A mother coping with a troubled young man and obviously not receiving the mental health help they needed. I have heard very little about the effects of video games that glorify killing and desensitize the players. All I hear is about banning guns. The rise in these violent acts seems to correlate with the disintegration of the family unit, the proliferation of violent games and movies, and the lack of affordable and accessible mental health help and the removal of the stigma associated with emotional or mental illness. We can, and perhaps should, look at gun laws but without the other elements being addressed, a mentally ill and angry person can and will still cause mayhem. Jumping on the anti-gun bandwagon fixes nothing and denies many their rights. Let's not act out of a preponderance of emotion but rather with a reasoned and rational approach.
