Are Both Sides of the Aisle Ready To Debate A Trans Gun Ban?

After watching the press conference by Minnesota officials flowing today's mass shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school, I posted the following on x:

'If transgenderism is ever formally considered a mental illness, should it be added to mental illness disqualifiers for firearms purchases in states where that's legal?

Should congress consider legislation to this effect or the president sign an executive order to add it at the federal level?

Standing outside the red meat throwing echo chamber of the far right, I'm calmly asking should this sexual orientation be considered grounds to deny firearms purchases in light of suspected school shooting trends involving this orientation?

Given the small number of those who identify as trans, roughly 2.8 million people according to surveys, proponents would argue in favor of it.

Mere discussion of a trans gun ban is a topic neither side of the aisle would rush to engage.

Updating 'red flag law' guidelines would force conservatives to revisit opposition to the concept, especially if it stops planned mass shootings by vocal suspects.

I've offered some questions to a uniquely twenty-first century civil rights and public safety topic.

The Minneapolis Catholic school mass shooting gives those questions disturbing news urgency.

It seems a difficult debate is at hand.

I'm very curious to see what each side has to say, if anything.
