Assault weapons ban

As everyone has a opinion on who should have guns or if they should have guns, I think it would be refreshing if everyone knew exactly what our forefathers wanted as a gun right.

To understand the the second amendment you have to understand their vocabulary of the time. For instance the second amendment mentions that the Militia shall have guns. What is the Militia? No National guard existed in 1776 or for many years after that. The Militia was any man that was over 16 years of age. If you where 16 you where expected to defend your community, if need be. The Federalist papers where written to explain the different provisions of the constitution, by some of the people who wrote it. What does it say about guns? Granted it is old English and not the easiest thing to read at times, but it clearly states that the people shall retain guns so that if the government becomes tyrannical the people can remove that government. That being the case ( check # 46 Federalist papers...it is on line), it is appropriate that civilians have military like weapons. You will hear all sorts of opinions about what I just wrote.
