Auto Industry Supporters Grateful for What They Got

With several inches of fresh snow on the ground and with President Bush approving a $17.4 billion auto industry bailout, it was beginning to look a lot more like Christmas in Michigan on Friday. But it was more like the kind of Christmas where you found an orange in your stocking instead of that Wii game you really, really wanted.

Mr. Bush’s announcement of the bailout came a day after Chrysler announced that it was shutting down all its plants for at least a month, and after The Detroit Free Press reported that the Indy Racing League was dropping the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix because of difficulty finding sponsors for the race. But make no mistake, there is appreciation for that orange.
