In the not so long ago “good old days” when Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was one of Chicago’s good ‘ole boys, he got to pose in his bib and tuck with the crème de la crème Democrats. In those days, Obama would never have said he hardly knew Blago. But now Blago’s persona non grata and so is his senatorial appointment, Roland Burris, who was turned away on Capitol Hill today when he tried to take his seat. The Associated Press is already calling the Burris snub “the first race card of the Obama era” “now in play”. “So far, the episode has not produced a full-throated cry of racism, and many black political leaders are lying low instead of lining up behind Burris,” writes AP’s Jesse Washington. “The fact that America’s first black president has come out against seating Burris may be preventing the dispute from turning into a major racial flare-up.” We at CFP think that the distinguished-in-service Roland Burris, got caught up in the inconvenient truth of being in the right place at the wrong time. President-elect Barack Obama will brook no distractions in pulling off the most high profile inauguration of a president in American history. Blago, though you wouldn’t know it by looking at the picture above, is the Big Bad Boy in the Dems’ big bad books. But with the powerful stench of corruption that emanates from every day Chicago politics, it’s not an easy sell.
