MARKHAM, ON, - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today that it sold 10,242 vehicles in October, representing a 12.1% increase over the same month last year. The October result represents the 34th consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth and the best-ever October in company history.
Hyundai has sold 114,333 units in the first ten months of 2011, an increase of 9.2% over the same period last year. Hyundai remains the number-one selling passenger car brand in Canada with sales of 78,575 units year-to-date. "October was the eighth consecutive month where Hyundai sold over 10,000 vehicles, which is a first for us," said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "As a result, Hyundai will set a new company record for annual sales before the end of November." October also yielded three significant awards for Hyundai. The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced that the Hyundai Accent subcompact, Elantra compact sedan and Veloster three-door coupe were named Best New Small Car under $21,000, Best New Small Car over $21,000, and Best New Sports/Performance Car under $50,000, respectively.

With three wins, Hyundai took home more AJAC Canadian Car of the Year category awards than any other manufacturer. The vehicles won with a compelling combination of style, quality, value, performance and safety. Added Kelleher: "Winning three category awards at the AJAC Canadian Car of the Year program signifies the strength of the current Hyundai line-up. Our products have never been better, and the recognition from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada is vindication for all the hard work our designers and engineers have put into developing the latest Hyundai vehicles." In October, Hyundai vehicles consuming less than 5.0 L/100 km represented 50.4% of total sales. The Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan, Elantra compact sedan, Accent subcompact, and Veloster 3-door coupe consume fuel at a respective rate of just 4.6, 4.9, 4.8 and 4.9 L/100km on the highway. Hyundai Auto Canada, established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham Ontario, is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai vehicles are distributed throughout Canada by Hyundai Auto Canada and are sold and serviced through more than 200 dealerships nationwide.
