B’nai Brith Questions Sincerity of PA as Peace Partner in Wake of New Court Ruling

Palestinian General Prosecution declaring the sale of land to an Israeli citizen or company a criminal offence

B’nai Brith Canada condemns today’s ruling by the Palestinian General Prosecution declaring the sale of land to an Israeli citizen or company a criminal offence. The current and ongoing Middle-East peace talks make this a precarious time to announce the criminalization of land sales to Jews.

“The mockery and hypocrisy of the peace talks is evidenced by the Palestinian Authority court ruling proclaiming that selling or attempting to sell land to a Jew is a crime punishable by death,” commented Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President, B’nai Brith Canada. “Is Israel meant to take from this ruling the notion that the Palestinian Authority (PA) really wants peaceful co-existence? Is the Palestinian Authority to be considered a peace partner negotiating in good faith?”
