Canada Post and the Union Both Stink



It's a gutless use of government services, and even worse. The Union's exploitation of temporary employees paying Union dues into the Union's benefit and pension plan.

These "Temporary Workers", as I listened to Toronto's 640am Radio host, John Oakley. One caller was a Temporary Postal Worker talking about the pitfalls of waiting it out for a permanent position. Five years, and the first two a joke. A disgraceful misuse of people that any other Union wouldn't approve of or would demand the Corporation if Private, to either hire or fire the Temps. The Union monumentally benefits from these working zombies because they have NO vacation rights. No worker rights within the Union, and No actual representation. They can be cannon fodder for both Union or Canada Post management to use and misuse. And boy, do they misuse these people. Like I say, management has the right to manage. But the Union is obliged to protect the employees. But in this case neither properly takes care of the temporary workers. I'd go so far that offshore temporary workers humping their backsides picking fruit and working in the Greenhouses get better treatment than these people. Can you imagine, being called at four thirty in the morning. If you don't answer the phone, you start all over again. So you don't ever miss that phone call, period. You can't get sick, or have a tooth ache, never. Heaven help you if you need minor surgery. Gone, baby, gone. Start all over again. I say, hire or fire. Never string people along. But its the actual eight hour day that most people don't know of the scam. Go in for your eight, do your run by ten in the morning. Still on eight hours pay, but going out on a second run at time and a half. You are still on the tab for the first eight hours, but now you are getting five hours of overtime and still on the eight hour pay too. Unbelievable. Canada Post, sneaks it through because, they aren't hiring new hires, and they aren't increasing personnel. Better still, no more extra names on the benefits and pensions plan. Keep your Canada Post expenses down, and you management types get your bonus or promotions. This is a huge scam. Who wouldn't want to be a Postal Worker. Eight hour pay, work three, and onto a local golf course by eleven in the morning, being paid by your company at the same time. Or if you need a few bucks for those expensive golf memberships and golf balls. Heck do a few extra rounds per week to top up your pay. What unskilled worker can get fifteen hours pay on an eight hour shift and not complain? In fact, the Union reps would be royally peeved if you even mentioned this to the local news people. But being news people are primarily liberal or leftists. Nothing will be divulged to the public. "Keep yer trap shut", will be the word from the Union. J. Hagar
