OTTAWA, – The President of the association representing fifteen international automobile manufacturers and distributors in Canada supported today’s announcement by the Prime Minister and President Obama on joint action plans to facilitate legitimate trade and travel between Canada and the United States, as well as the alignment on regulatory approaches between the two nations.

“The initiatives outlined in the Action Plans will reduce barriers to legitimate trade as well as more closely aligning motor vehicle safety and environmental standards between Canada and the United States while respecting the sovereignty of each country,” said David Adams, President of the. Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC). “ This approach is reflective of the fact that the automotive industry has been operating on an integrated basis between our two countries for some time, ” added Adams Importantly the work being undertaken under the Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness Action Plan and the Regulatory Cooperation Council Action Plan is to be conducted in a transparent manner respecting privacy, under jointly developed privacy protection principles.
