Drivers embrace quality, fuel-efficiency and safety, setting 2008 Toyota and Lexus records

Canadian-built models drive Toyota Canada Inc. to all-time record year in 2008



In 2008, Canadian drivers purchased with a strong focus on vehicle quality, safety and fuel efficiency, while not sacrificing on the performance and amenities that Toyota and Lexus offer. Canadians made it possible for Toyota Canada Inc. to achieve a best ever year of sales in 2008, driving away in 224,158 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in 2008, up 11.3% from 2007 to set the second straight year of sales over 200,000.

Toyota and Lexus both enjoyed record sales years. Toyota sales of 209,157 were up 11.3% from 2007 and represent the first time the Toyota brand has sold more than 200,000 vehicles in a single year in Canada, while also exceeding 2007 combined Lexus and Toyota sales of 201,326. Lexus sales of 15,001 vehicles, up 12.0% versus 2007, helped the luxury brand to set its new Canadian sales record. Highlights for full-year 2008 (versus 2007): Made-in-Canada successes: - 57,736 Toyota Corolla models sold, up 42.6% - 23,549 Toyota Matrix models sold, up 10.2% - 20,522 Toyota RAV4 models sold, up 25.7% - 4,841 Lexus RX 350 models sold, up 28.9% Cleaner-efficient-powerful hybrid models: - 4,458 Toyota Prius liftback models sold, up 72.5% - 1,523 Toyota Highlander Hybrid crossover models sold, up 159.9% - 1,380 Lexus RX 400h luxury hybrid crossover models sold, up 51.8% "We thank Canadians for choosing Toyota vehicles that offer more power, less fuel and no compromise, helping Toyota achieve an all-time record sales year," said Warren Orton, Director at TCI. "Toyota's three Canadian-built models, all updated in 2008, continue to be the most popular, at almost 50% of total Toyota sales in Canada, demonstrating that Toyota builds vehicles where we sell them." To further encourage Canadians to "Start Smart" for 2009, when Canadians finance any Toyota model they can take advantage of an offer to make no payments for 90 days. What's more, $500 gas gift cards are available when purchasing the made-in-Canada 2009 Toyota Corolla, Matrix and RAV4 and up to $5,000 in gas gift cards or cash credit are available when purchasing other select 2008 and 2009 models. To ring in the new year and in anticipation of the all-new 2010 RX, Lexus is offering a 3.9% lease and finance rate on 2009 made-in-Canada RX 350 luxury crossovers. Lexus will also offer a best-ever lease and finance rate of 3.5% on 2008 RX 400h luxury hybrid crossovers, making perfect moments of performance, fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and no-sacrifice luxury even more enticing. Lexus guests can also take advantage of an offer to make no payments for 90 days when they finance any Lexus model.
