Cardinal Cupich Will Honor Billionaire Planned Parenthood Donor Michael Sacks

Zander said the controversy raises questions under the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ 2004 statement “Catholics in Political Life”

A prominent Catholic cardinal is under fire again for yet another decision to honor a radical abortion activist.

Cardinal Blase Cupich faced massive criticism last year for his decision to honor pro-abortion Senator Dick Durbin and, this year, he’s facing calls to rescind an honor to a leftist billionaire who donates to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Cupich and the rector of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake plan to present the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Nostra Aetate Award to billionaire businessman and Democrat donor Michael Sacks at an October 29 fundraiser for the formation of future priests, drawing criticism from pro-life advocates who cite Sacks’ support for America’s biggest abortion business.

Illinois Right to Life has called on Cupich and seminary rector Fr. John Kartje to withdraw the honor, scheduled for the annual Seminary Salutes Rerum Novarum event. The group pointed to foundation records showing $500,000 from the Sacks Family Foundation to Planned Parenthood of Illinois between 2020 and 2022, plus a September 2026 Crain’s Chicago Business report identifying an additional $600,000 contribution by Sacks toward an abortion initiative that benefited organizations including Planned Parenthood of Illinois and the Chicago Abortion Fund. ---More...

Democrats Will Push Unlimited Abortions Day 1 if They Take Congress

Quick note. The Senate races are close, closer than ever. Be sure to vote!

A flavor of what pro-abortion Democrats are promising…

“Should they win in November, top House Democrats are planning a shock-and-awe legislative sprint to demonstrate within hours of taking power that they are passing bills to deliver on their promises…”

This particular “shock and awe” story doesn’t address Democrats’ goal of creating unlimited “access” to abortion but plenty of prominent honchos were part of a House Democrats’ Cost-of-Living Healthcare Working Group which sent Leader Hakeem Jeffries on September 1 a proposed governing memo. NRLC’s Rai Rojas wrote. ---More...

Cardinal Cupich Defends Giving Award to Huge Planned Parenthood Donor

Catholic Cardinal Blase Cupich is defending a decision to give an award to a huge Planned Parenthood donor.

Cardinal Blase Cupich defended the Archdiocese of Chicago’s decision to present its Nostra Aetate Award to billionaire businessman Michael Sacks, a major donor to abortion causes and the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Sacks will receive the award at an October 29 fundraiser for the formation of future Catholic priests, framing the criticism in terms of interreligious respect and the risk of antisemitism.

The award is scheduled for the annual Seminary Salutes Rerum Novarum banquet at IBEW Local 134 in Chicago. The event, organized with the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, raises funds for priestly formation. Cupich and seminary rector the Very Rev. John Kartje are listed as hosts. ---More...

Poll Shows Idaho Voters Oppose Abortions Up to Birth Amendment

Idaho voters oppose Proposition 1 by a 54%-39% margin, according to a new poll from the liberal Democratic group VoteNexus, indicating rejection of a measure that would allow abortions up to birth and override the state’s parental consent laws.

The Oct. 23 survey of likely voters underrepresents 2024 Trump voters by 7%, suggesting opposition is even stronger than the numbers indicate.

Campaign officials said the results show Idahoans have not been persuaded by over $6 million in false claims that the initiative is “common-sense” and would merely restore abortion law to the Roe v. Wade standard. The fake ads also claim pro-life laws are driving doctors from Idaho or that women can’t get care for miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. None of that is true.

In fact, Proposition 1 radically changes the definition of fetal viability in a way that would permit abortions later in pregnancy, and it overrides Idaho’s parental consent requirements so underage girls could obtain abortions without their parents’ knowledge or consent. ---More...

Liberty University President: Vote Against Virginia Amendment for Unlimited Abortions

Liberty University President Dondi Costin is urging voters to reject a proposed Virginia constitutional amendment that would enshrine a so-called right to abortion up to birth and undermine parental rights.

“If life begins at conception, as it clearly does, then you should vote with that principle in clear view. There is only one obvious way to vote on that amendment,” Costin said. “Some issues are confusing — this one isn’t. It is obvious based on what Scripture has to say about those two very fundamental issues (marriage and life) in our existence.”

The amendment, appearing on the Nov. 3 ballot after legislation sponsored by Sen. Jennifer Boysko, would add constitutional language making it an unlimited right to kill babies in abortions up to birth.

Under current Virginia law, abortion is generally permitted through the second trimester, with later abortions requiring certification from three licensed physicians. Critics say the amendment would lower that standard to a single abortionist and effectively allow abortions throughout pregnancy, including the third trimester up to birth. ---More...
