Cincinnati City Council set to ban 'gay conversion therapy'

Maybe liberals would prefer the way radical Islamists deal with homosexuals. They don't try to minister to them or offer them any sort of therapy. They just throw them off rooftops. Better? It doesn't seem to bother them nearly as much as what they decry as "gay conversation therapy," and what those of us with more spiritual insight would call deliverance.

Today the Cincinnati City Council stands poised to ban any sort of therapy or ministering that would seek to free a homosexual person from homosexual impulses, and that would include ministering based on the Word of God that states clearly homosexuals will not inherit the Kingdom of God. If any of you pastors try to save that person's soul, it'll now cost you $200 a day in the 'Nati:

Nearly a year after the death by suicide of local transgender teenager Leelah Alcorn, Cincinnati again stands to become a national leader in LGBT rights, with debate scheduled Monday on a measure that would ban reparative or conversion therapy for LGBT youth City Council Member Chris Seelbach said Thursday that at Monday’s meeting of the council’s law and public safety committee, he will propose an ordinance that would impose a $200-a-day fine on a therapist or counselor practicing the therapy that aims to “change” lesbians, gay men, bisexuals or transgender people from their sexual orientation or gender identity. “I feel very confident that I have the votes” for passage out of committee Monday, Seelbach said. The full council would then take up the ordinance Wednesday, and Seelbach expressed confidence in winning there as well.

Passage apparently would make Cincinnati the first major U.S. city to ban reparative or conversion therapy. The Movement Advancement Project, an LGBT organization in Denver that tracks legislation nationwide on reparative therapy, has no record of a city passing an ordinance that would ban the practice. Cincinnati has pioneered other official moves to embrace LGBT citizens, including offering health benefits to transgender city employees and setting aside a City Hall bathroom as gender-neutral.

By the way, I know this sounds like an opinion piece that I've excerpted from the Cincinnati Enquirer, but amazingly it's a straight news story - or it's supposed to be - written by one Anne Saker. Ms. Saker is clearly very excited that Cincinnati is becoming a "national leader" in the rejection of Jesus Christ, and I guess her editors have no problem with that bit of editorializing on the news pages either. The decimation of the First Amendment is fine so long as the news media is exempt, which they surely will be so long as they serve their state masters. After that . . . Anyway, we've talked in this space before about the basis for Christian teaching on homosexuality, and why it's not at all about hate and entirely about helping a person to overcome spiritual oppression that creates separation between them and God. It's terrible that Leelah Alcorn killed herself, but it didn't happen because someone tried to lead her to deliverance. It happened because she didn't choose Christ over the fleshly impulses that oppressed her life. You think this is about homosexuality now, but it's about setting a larger precedent: The left hates Christianity because they don't want the limits they believe it would place on their moral behavior, and laws like this are designed to make any sort of ministering that seeks to correct a person back to biblical morality illegal. They will call it "discrimination," but the principle they will always follow will be that every moral choice is just as valid as every other moral choice, and anyone who tries to get you to change a moral choice is discriminating against you. This is just beginning. It's never been about the rights of gay people. It's always been about waging war on the Word of God. The people of God need to understand that.
