COME FLY WITH ME, DICAPRIO

Whatever happened to angel-faced, little Leonardo DiCaprio of, 'What’s Eating Gilbert Grape'? He is beginning to look like the devil with a goatee. Dorian Gray’s attic is appearing in his hypocritical face. The king of pretending to erase the carbon footprint flew from Cannes to New York to Cannes in a private jet. He was honored for clean water, clean air and clean sex—Citizens against Aids.
Leonardo is about clean everything. Seems suspicious to me when his hundreds of women partners have made the newspapers. Protection doesn’t always protect. And flaunting a wild life style hurts careless imitators. During his Oscar speech he said, reminiscent of that great dour wit Obama, “Climate change is real. It is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species.” That’s like Obama intimating, don’t worry about Muslims decapitating us, worry about glaciers melting. It is so boring when rich glamorous people like Obama and DiCaprio pontificate. We do not need to take moral lessons from the advantaged. We do not appreciate faux seriousness from those who are spoiled and lacking in gravitas.

When people around the world are being decapitated by Muslims we do not want to hear that we should worry about polar bears losing their glaciers. We do not want to see DiCaprio being honored for clean air when he is a giant polluter. Spare us the hypocrisy of movie stars and politicians. They pollute the moral universe as well as the earth and oceans. In the Post, Environmentalist Robert Rapier says, “Everybody says, ‘I’ve got a good reason for consuming what I consume….’” Leonardo excuses his excessive pollution and flying, saying he “hitched a ride with someone already flying back to Cannes.” As if Leonardo hitching a ride with another sparsely populated jet exonerates him from being a large contributor to what he mislabels “the most urgent threat facing our entire species.”
