Dalton McGuinty’s HST Tax Grab Will Force North York Families to Pay More For Gas

NEWS: NORTH YORK – Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak and PC Economic Development and Trade Critic, Peter Shurman, MPP Thornhill, today visited an Esso gas station in North York to highlight how Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab on gasoline will hurt families in the GTA.

When the HST takes effect on July 1st, North York families will pay 8 per cent more for gasoline every time they go to the pumps. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation estimates that a family with two mid-size cars with average fuel efficiency will pay an average of $246 in HST every year on gasoline alone. Commuters in Toronto and the GTA, who often find themselves stuck in traffic, stand to pay even more. At every step of the way, the Ontario PC Caucus has stood up and opposed this massive tax grab. Hudak asked North York families to participate in the Ontario PC’s HST poll at daltonsalestax.com to have their say how which part of Dalton McGuinty’s HST tax grab will hurt them the most. QUOTES: “Dalton McGuinty’s previous tax and fee increases have stretched Ontario family budgets to the breaking point. Now the McGuinty Liberals $3 billion HST tax grab is making life more expensive for North York families, who will also be forced to pay more for gas.” -- Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak “The HST is not just a new sales tax, it is a new gas tax that will cost a two-car family $246 a year. Each time you fill your tank, Dalton McGuinty will have his hand in your pocket.” -- Peter Shurman, Ontario PC MPP for Thornhill and Critic for Economic Development and Trade QUICK FACTS: On June 16th, the average price of gas in Toronto was $0.95 per litre.
