Dalton McGuinty admitted to the media that he did not even read the HST agreement

Dalton McGuinty’s Latest HST Gaffe Shows He’s Out of Touch with the Impact of the Tax

News: With just over three weeks until the $3 billion HST tax grab hits the family budget, Dalton McGuinty showed once again that he is so out-of-touch with Ontario families that he doesn’t even know the real impact of the tax.

On CFRA’s morning show, Dalton McGuinty stumbled and gaffed a number of times. Staffers from his office were even forced to call the show and say Dalton McGuinty was wrong when he said families would pay tax on his HST bribe cheques. In the same interview, McGuinty said he wasn’t sure how many families would be hurt by the HST. Although he admitted that what he is asking families to do “is not easy”. This comes after months of claiming the HST would be revenue neutral. This is not surprising given Dalton McGuinty admitted to the media that he did not even read the HST agreement. When the HST comes into effect on July 1, it will add to the cost of a whole range of goods and services Ontario families and seniors use every day, such as gasoline, hydro and home heating oil. Quotes: “Dalton McGuinty is so out-of-touch he doesn’t even know how his HST tax grab will impact the family budget. Although this isn’t surprising, given he didn’t even bother to read his HST agreement.” -- Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak “Dalton McGuinty is more concerned about getting his hands on the $3 billion in taxpayer’s money than understanding how the HST will hit families.” -- Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak Quick Facts: Ron Corbett: Do you pay taxes on these cheques that are being mailed out? Practical question for you, Premier. Dalton McGuinty: Will they be treated as part of your income? I believe so, yes. Ron Corbett: So you will be paying taxes on the cheques? Dalton McGuinty: Yep. -- CFRA Chatroom Contact: Christine Bujold Christine.bujold@pc.ola.org
