Defunding Police, With A New Twist- 'Community Safety Grants

While watching Fox and Friends host Lawrence Jones and panelists discuss the attack on a heroic DOGE employee who thwarted a woman being carjacked, an idea was 'divinely downloaded' into my overactive imagination.

Idea:

Lobby leftist police 'defenders' in Democratic party cities to set up 'community safety grants' where off duty officers can be hired to protect events, businesses, neighborhood associations, places of worship, schools, parks, etc, in low income, high crime areas that can't afford off duty police officers but would welcome them.

The idea would force leftists to deny public funds in the name of ideology at the expense of willing members of their constituencies--or actually help them protect themselves.

Police department depopulation has reduced the number of patrol officers and increased response times in low income, high crime areas.

Publicly funded off-duty officers patrolling these areas or securing locations offer extra protection currently enjoyed by high income residential areas and business districts.

Shouldn't leftists jump at the opportunity to offer equity in off-duty police services so that lower income citizens get the same extra protection enjoyed by higher income ones?

If not, it would expose them as more concerned with political vanity than low income, high crime areas they claim to represent.

Alternately, they could embrace the idea, spray paint it with tie dye terminology and declare it a progressive victory!

Police defunding with a new twist, in the form of 'community safety grants' is worth a try, if you ask me.
