Dems Picking The Wrong Fight

So goeth the myth of Washington, D.C. having the best and the brightest. The current Democrat intelligentsia is picking a fight they can't win, and many of us will just sit back and watch them crash and burn.

Top Democrats believe they have struck political gold by depicting Rush Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party, a full-scale effort first hatched by some of the most familiar names in politics and now being guided in part from inside the White House. Soon it clicked: Democrats realized they could roll out a new GOP bogeyman for the post-Bush era by turning to an old one in Limbaugh, a polarizing figure since he rose to prominence in the 1990s.

Let's be blunt: Democrats are screwing with the wrong man. They are proceeding with the assumption that Rush Limbaugh is a political figure; a seriously misguided assumption. Mr. Limbaugh is not a political figure, but an entertainer. He admits as much. Mr. Limbaugh is not encumbered by any reelection landmines, so he doesn't have to worry about his actions coming back to haunt him later. He is purely driven by getting more listeners and having the White House and Capitol Hill Democrats mention him by name is a promotion dream come true.

The strategy took shape after Democratic strategists Stanley Greenberg and James Carville included Limbaugh’s name in an October poll and learned their longtime tormentor was deeply unpopular with many Americans, especially younger voters.

That's because many young voters have been poisoned by one-sided academic presentations and opinions. Many of those young people have never listened to Rush Limbaugh, and any continued mention of him could cause some to actually hear his message and some may find he makes sense. And Rush loves this stuff. Every Matt Lauer or other pundit quote of his wanting the president's policies to fail keeps Rush in the popular spotlight, and keeps the Democrats off-message, not rebutting a fellow political adversary, but an "entertainer" who'll keep them reacting and on their toes as long as they keep his name in the conversation. This may also be a tactic to justify the comeback of The Fairness Doctrine. However, that path is also frought with Democrat peril as I'd love to watch hearings. Imagine the Democrat House and Senate blowhards making their soundbites, and how many would be curiously absent the day Rush Limbaugh is called to testify out of fear he'd tear them a new one on worldwide television and streaming web. What to look for? The day Capitol Hill Democrats and the liberal media change the subject off of Limbaugh. That day may come sooner than later because, unlike them, Rush Limbaugh has nothing politically to lose. They do. A lot.
