Deportation, ICE, President Obama

Americans are getting hosed

Government at its finest? I don't think so. In the last four years the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) budget has increased nearly 25%. But the number of those deported dropped 43%.

In 2012 it cost about $6700 per person deported. In 2015 it cost $14,567 per person. ICE reports two kinds of deportees, those from the border and those from the interior. It is reasonable to assume it costs more to deport someone from Kansas City or Cincinnati than from a border town. The biggest drop in deportations was (no surprise here) from the interior. So, not only did the cost more than double, the easier targets that cost less only dropped a fraction while the harder ones dropped substantially. President Obama says that there is a lack of resources. We are getting hosed. Mrs. Carolyn M. Brown
