Driven batty over Paris treaty rejection

President Trump goes after the Left's sacred cow of global warming by rejecting the Paris climate treaty and you would think we were suddenly under a DEFCON 1 alert of imminent nuclear war. Some even called it treason to reject the Paris Accords treaty. And as happens now after any statement or action by the Trump administration, the liberal/left media leads the way with the talking points for all the leadership of the Democrat Party to cry out as one about how terrible they think President Trump is. "I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,” President Trump explained.
But apparently the Mayor of Pittsburgh thinks if you didn't vote for Donald Trump he's not your President, citing the Pro-Hillary vote in his city to supposedly show that people are against Trump. Nice try, Mr. Mayor, but Hillary lost and the actual President IS elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh and all of the United States. And the point of rejecting the Paris treaty is to defend businesses and their employees throughout the country, including those in Pittsburgh. Not only that, but when the scientific method is replaced by political doctrine and wrapped around socialist solutions run by an extra-national bureaucracy, our democratic institutions and national sovereignty are put at risk. We see now that from the schools to the media, global warming propaganda has inculcated fear of imminent destruction into millions of true believers. Now their mortal enemy, Donald Trump has caused the end of life as we know it - destruction is at hand and he and those who side with him are to be despised and disrespected as the subhuman scum they are. This centralized government anti-democracy ideology can only be perpetrated by creating a false world where anything not in line with that ideology will cause unheard of death and destruction. Whether you’re opposing the Obamacare bureaucracy or questioning the certainty of industrialized society being the cause of an eventual flooded, overheated planet, you become a killer responsible for millions of deaths, and therefore no longer qualify for being treated with civility.

The same is true if you support stricter enforcement of our immigration laws. I was recently trying to discuss immigration and border enforcement with someone who had expressed their outrage at President Trump after reading an opinion piece that blamed Trump for the increasing danger and expense of crossing the border illegally. After reading the article I questioned the outrage over Trump. The premise of the article was that since illegally crossing the border was declining for various reasons, Trump was responsible for coyotes' rates skyrocketing and riskier crossings. In other words, every inherent risk to illegally crossing the border is now Trump's fault. I made the point that we needed the governments on both sides of the border to work to find ways to reduce the appeal of leaving one’s home country to come to the US. Sounds reasonable, right? Discussing ways to make staying at home more desirable. No hostility, no assumption of any pre-existing political agenda, I thought. But what I didn't factor in (or just didn't want to) was the effects of political stereotyping and the fact that someone was venting and simply seeking fellow venters to share in their outrage.

Here we had political propaganda at work and succeeding at its intent. Objective: make people hate President Trump more. Step One: Title the article indicating it's Trump's fault. Step Two: Show that whatever has happened that is causing the outrage is exclusively the fault of Donald Trump. A problem presented with no practical solution to resolve it. Recipe for a close-minded reaction: Trump's the problem, get rid of him and his supporters, problem solved. The implied warning sign: Don't question the propaganda or you become the problem that immediately needs to be dealt with. Resolution of problem: vent against the person or people who would dare to question the premise or question the conclusion presented in the propaganda. Never mind one of the fundamentals of law enforcement: the goal of making illegal activity less desirable and therefore less likely. If someone still wants to commit the crime after it becomes more difficult to commit, is law enforcement all the way up to The-Buck-Stops-Here President then responsible? If someone working in the law enforcement profession says "yes" to that question, they have to be living a very conflicted life. Short of finding a way to abolish the laws in question, the only other way to try and resolve the inner conflict is to not do your job. And for some reason, employers aren't, or shouldn’t be, very sympathetic to that choice.
