Duck Dynasty Founder shot down, global media piles on!

So the A&E Channel has decided to suspend a leading player in its hit reality TV series Duck Dynasty because he gave a magazine interview in which, responding to questions, he stated a support for Traditional Marriage, an opposition to homosexuality, and quoted Bible scripture. Following this, media criticism has piled on from around the globe.

Phil Robertson is the Father on the A&E Channel’s top rated show which is now preparing to show its fifth season. Robertson created the Duck Commander duck call in 1972 and incorporated the Duck Commander Company in 1973. The company makes equipment for duck hunters and the show is a reality series following the lives of the family that runs it. In a recent interview with GQ magazine, for its January 2014 issue, Robertson said:

“start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men. … It seems like, to me, a vagina — as a man — would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

The magazine writer supplements this with a paraphrase from Corinthians (in the Bible) saying, “don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers — they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

Britain’s Daily Mail is generally supportive of conservative values, that is unless God gets too involved at which time, as is the case here, they yield to their fe-mail gossip side as they try to champion agnosticism with all the subtlety of a teenager at a football match. The Mail asserted as its leading point of Robertson’s discretion that he linked homosexuality to bestiality. This is based on the Bible quote in 1 Corinthians 6:9 which lists them together. But strangely we don’t see the Mail being critical of the Saint Paul who actually wrote that, nor do they insist the Sovereign to remove the offending scripture from the Church of England’s copies of the Bible. The Mail then states that the same link shows Robertson comparing homosexuals to terrorists when no such statement exists. This is not the first time we have seen the Mail purely fabricate information. Only a week and a half ago The Mail mis-represented senior UK Independence Party member Victoria Ayling stating she wanted to repatriate all immigrants and that her statements were race based. CNN joined in as well saying that A&E suspended Robertson after making “controversial comments about gays and blacks.” The latter comment is quoted as Robertson saying he never saw "the mistreatment of any black person" growing up in the 1930’s. It is assumed by the politically correct class that such abuses were routine. However Robertson, who was there, said:

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Online commenter’s got even better with this. Referring to the comment on blacks one individual responded “dude is delusional”. Really – unless you were there you can’t really state with conviction that they are wrong. In regards to the Robertson suspension in general another said “No one is limiting his free speech in any legal capacity... A company is simply saying they do not want him to be part of their product because they feel it will damage their brand. That sounds like the free market.” Now let’s flip this around. If a person 'comes out' (admits to being gay) for example and a show suspends him/her for doing so - is that the free market? Is that really what we would call it? No it would be called discrimination and with justification. But flip it back and it’s 'the free market'. This is convenience & hypocrisy at its liberal worst. That's the intolerant discrimination the American left practices constantly. When something they believe is challenged its bigotry (like anytime Obama is criticized the left, particularly the media, frequently plays the race card). When something they disagree with is sanctioned its immediately justified and explained away. Liberals aren't watching Duck Dynasty, it’s about God-fearing family values capitalists. This is an attempt to smear something successful (it’s the highest rated cable broadcast show in a series) for fear that persuadable people might be persuaded. They fear that that those redneck, terrorist, racist, hostage taking anarchists like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin might actually be seen to be quite decent people. The success of Duck Dynasty has the liberals in a panic and they respond by trying to stamp out this thing that they don’t control. A & E Network is in a bit of a conundrum as they are quacking out of both sides of their corporate beak. Season Five – due to air in the New Year, has already been shot but the network may have shot itself too. Phil’s son Willie who runs the business now says he has the same views yet will remain on the show. Given they all attend the same church it’s not unreasonable to believe the whole family is the same. So A&E will presumably show Season Five with Phil appearing while at the same time arguing that in cutting him (indefinite suspension), they are ‘taking a stand’. Thus the network tries to continue making record profits from the show, while at the same time appeasing the gay lobby. It’s a politically correct balancing act that could see the network get torpedoed from both sides and that would result in a sinking duck.
