Dysfunctional FEMA

It now seems clear, with the reports from the northeast, that President Bush took unwarranted criticism over the handling of the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Here we are, 7 years later, a different geographic area, a different demographic but similar levels of unpreparedness.

In spite of the long advanced notice of a superstorm, FEMA was woefully unprepared with even basics like bottled water. Even more disgusting is that while people are going without, FEMA is using a bidding process to decide which private vendor will supply the water. FEMA, obviously, is a dysfunctional agency and it appears that in the last 4 years, President Obama has not fixed the problem.When Americans are faced with catastrophic national disasters, it is reasonable for them to expect a Federal Emergency Management Agency that is just that-prepared. Please write to your Senators to let them know that anything less is unacceptable. The next time it might be our area that is desperate for supplies that aren't forthcoming.
