With Eastman Kodak Co. planning another reduction in its local work force, Rochester business leaders say the economy will have to continue to diversify to make up for the job losses.
In announcing its latest financial results last week, which included declining sales and a fourth-quarter loss, the area's third-largest employer said it will cut 3,500 to 4,500 jobs worldwide, with 1,300 of the layoffs occurring locally.
Business officials said one coping strategy will be to keep as many of the pink-slipped Kodakers as possible in the local work force, counting on both their entrepreneurial drive and their high skill levels, which will make them attractive to other employers.
