If there was ever an example of a stupid government action, the New York State gun law is a stand out to win the award.
In a hasty response to the Sandy Hook massacre, the state passed a law that only guns with a 7-bullet magazine or less is permissible. Trouble is, there are no guns manufactured with 7 rounds magazines. Ooops. So now, Gov. Cuomo is looking at allowing 10 round magazines as long as you only put 7 rounds in the gun. Boy, the enforcement of that should be interesting.
Apparently, no one in the process did their homework, not the drafters, nor the committee, nor the legislature and finally, nor the Governor. How discouraging this is for the people to see ineptitude like this over and over.
We absolutely must stop these emotional reactions to events and stop ramming through legislation that is poorly thought out and poorly written. We keep piling on laws, challenging them at great cost, repealing or rewriting and on and on.
Our system is dysfunctional. The people can't possibly know and follow the thousands of laws that are on the books. And antics such as the New York gun law only tie up the system more and fuel citizen mistrust.
